Early childhood training and education
Find the right qualification for your pathway
At Wonderschool, we're building a team of educators across Canberra and southeast Sydney. Whether you're starting out or looking to develop your career in early childhood education, there's a pathway for you.
Below is information about the industry-recognised qualifications available, from Certificate III through to teaching degrees.
Early Childhood Teacher
Early Childhood Teachers hold university-level qualifications in early childhood teaching - typically a four-year teaching degree specialising in birth to five years. They lead teams of educators and drive children's learning, development and sense of wonder.
Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121)
Diplomates are educators who have completed this qualification and bring both knowledge and drive to their work. With a Diploma, you can become a Team Leader (overseeing a team of educators and children) or work as a Diploma-qualified educator supporting children's learning.
Note: All education and care services must ensure at least 50% of educators hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Duration
Typically four semesters full-time (around 25 hours per week, with work-based delivery) or part-time equivalent, plus approximately 8 hours per week of independent study to develop your skills.
Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121)
Certificate III educators - also known as Assisting Educators or Team Members - work with Diploma-qualified Team Leaders or Early Childhood Teachers. Together, you support children's learning, development, safety and sense of wonder.
Duration
Typically two semesters full-time (around 20 hours per week) or part-time equivalent, plus approximately 8 hours per week of independent study to develop your skills.
