About us
Wonderschool Throsby is ready to walk alongside your child through life’s earliest adventures
Wonderschool Throsby
Families in Canberra’s north seeking early learning with genuine outdoor connection choose Wonderschool Throsby. Our centre is nestled next to the beautiful Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve, where children regularly explore, climb and connect with nature on walking excursions.
Our early learning curriculum is responsive to each child’s needs and development. All meals are freshly prepared in our kitchen with dedicated cooks, providing delicious and nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day.
The Throsby centre is purpose-built in Gungahlin with five separate spaces for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We’re conveniently located just 200 metres from Throsby Public School, making morning drop-offs and the transition to primary school straightforward for families with older children.
You and your child can find us opposite the parkland on Kunapalari Street. Or explore our other early learning centres across Canberra for a location closer to your home or work.

The Wonderschool Way
Providing enriching learning experiences that build communities

Your child’s Key Educator
We understand your desire to stay connected with your child and see their learning and progress. At Wonderschool, this starts with the Key Educator Approach. Every child has one consistent, trusted educator who builds a genuine relationship with them and their family. This person is your main point of contact during drop-off and pick-up, and the heart of your child’s experience with us.
We also provide authentic, one-to-one assessments every six months following the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF). Relationships are at the core of everything we do. We use moments during drop-off and pick-up to keep you informed of your child’s day.
What makes us wonderful
We build community through enriching learning experiences. Children learn about their neighbourhood through local walks, engagement with local businesses and regular connections in Gungahlin.
Families are invited to share their skills and cultural knowledge with the children, whether that is music education, storytelling or cultural celebrations.
We are committed to environmental responsibility, with recycling programs, composting and worm farms, teaching children about sustainability and accountability.
Creative expression is encouraged every day. Your child will have opportunities to explore music, movement, painting and sculpture.
All meals are made fresh in our kitchen each day, following Nutrition Australia guidelines and adapted to meet each child’s dietary and cultural needs.

Frequently asked questions
What should I bring each day?
We take care of most of the daily essentials at Wonderschool, so drop-off can be as smooth as possible. All children are provided with nappies, sunscreen, bed linen and nutritious meals prepared fresh on site each day, including morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack.
To help your child settle in comfortably, we ask families to pack:
- A labelled change of clothes suited to the weather and active play (we recommend at least two)
- A comfort item if your child uses one, such as a dummy, comforter or favourite toy
- Any prescribed medication, clearly labelled with dosage instructions and a completed medication authorisation form
- A labelled water bottle
If your child has dietary allergies or specific nutritional needs, our kitchen team will work closely with you before their start date to make sure they are fully catered for.
How do you support school readiness?
At Wonderschool, school readiness is about much more than letters and numbers. Our preschool program is designed to help children develop the confidence, curiosity and emotional tools they need to approach kindergarten ready to connect, communicate and learn.
Our preschool rooms are led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers and our curriculum is aligned to the Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being and Becoming). Inspired by the Reggio Emilia model, we see children as capable, active learners who are co-collaborators in their own education, not passive recipients of it.
Children in our preschool program regularly engage in:
- Inquiry-based projects that build critical thinking, communication and creative problem-solving
- Loose parts play, which gives children the freedom to be the inventors of their own learning
- Group experiences that develop social skills, resilience and the ability to self-regulate
- Emotional development coaching, with educators supporting children to name and manage their feelings
Families receive two comprehensive summative assessments each year, providing a clear picture of your child’s progress in line with the national framework.
Wonderschool is also an approved three-year-old preschool provider in the ACT. Eligible families may be able to access the free three-year-old preschool program at select centres. Contact us to find out more about availability at your nearest location.
Do you offer care for babies?
Yes. Wonderschool welcomes children from 6 weeks of age across all of our early learning centres.
Our infant approach is shaped by the work of Magda Gerber and the RIE® (Resources for Infant Educarers) principles, along with the Pikler approach. Together, these guide us to treat every baby as a capable participant in their own care, building secure relationships from the very beginning.
Each infant is paired with a Key Educator who gets to know your baby individually, from their sleep cues and feeding rhythms to the little things that make them smile. Our infant rooms are calm, light-filled spaces with open areas designed for free movement and sensory exploration.
We work closely with families to follow your baby’s existing routines and make the transition into care as gradual and supported as possible. Everyday moments like bottle feeding, nappy changes and mealtimes are treated as meaningful connection times, not just tasks to move through.
For parents returning to work with a young baby, knowing your child is genuinely known and cared for is everything. At Wonderschool, that is what we build every day.
What days are available?
All Wonderschool centres operate Monday to Friday.
Day availability at each centre depends on current enrolment levels, your child’s age and the room they will be placed in. We encourage families to enquire early, as demand is strong across our centres, particularly at Taylor, Throsby and Chifley NSW.
The best way to find out what days are currently available is to contact your preferred centre directly or complete a waitlist application through our website. Our team will be in touch to discuss your family’s needs and work through the options with you.
Can I book a tour before joining?
Yes, and we encourage it. A centre visit is the best way to meet our educators, see the spaces your child would be learning in, and get a genuine feel for what makes Wonderschool different.
To book a tour, contact your preferred centre by phone or email, or submit an enquiry through our website and let us know you would like to come in. Our team will arrange a time that suits you.
Tours are available at all centres and are led by our Centre Directors. Bring your questions: there are no wrong ones when it comes to finding the right place for your child.
How does the waitlist work?
Joining the waitlist is the first step toward securing a place at Wonderschool. Here is how the process works:
- Visit your preferred centre’s page on our website and complete the online waitlist application.
- Our team will review your application and reach out to discuss your preferred start date, required days and your child’s age group.
- When a place becomes available that suits your family, we will be in touch to move through the enrolment process together.
We recommend applying as early as possible. Demand is high across our network, and some families apply well ahead of their intended start date.
While you are on the waitlist, you are welcome to book a tour so you can meet the team and see the centre for yourself.
