The time and years fly by, particularly when children are young and embracing building moments and memories. Enjoying the celebration of family traditions, with every family’s looking different, provides a time to reflect on how far we have come and what we have to look forward to.
This time of year is special for many as we also observe the year that has been. At Wonderschool, we often take the opportunity to reflect on the how and what we are celebrating.
In a child’s development, we know that inclusion and diversity is a cornerstone for building a nurturing environment where every child regardless of their background can grow, learn and thrive.
Celebrating continuous learning at any time of year
For some families, the end of the year happens in December and a new year begins in January, however this is not consistent around the world. Various nations and religious groups acknowledge the new year on different dates. While Australians have extended summer vacations, and children transition between year levels, in the northern hemisphere the same experience will take place during June and July.
Children continue learning regardless of when one year stops and another starts, and as such our programs ensure a consistent, well-researched approach to pedagogy. Whilst many of us may choose to celebrate various traditions and events, when it comes to celebration at Wonderschool, we always choose to consistently celebrate the children attending our services, their agency and self-efficacy, and their ongoing learning.
Consistency and community at the forefront of children’s experiences
We know that children require consistent, predictable and stable environments to thrive. As such, we maintain environments that are familiar and secure for all children. We also acknowledge that whilst these points in time are wonderful for many, we also recognise that celebrations should meet the needs of all members of our community. We love exploring and learning about different traditions and events so we can celebrate in authentic ways that are meaningful to children, such as sharing stories and special histories.
At Wonderschool, our focus is on creating enriching and meaningful experiences that cultivate learning and community.
Building connection with others at Wonderschool
We invite families to share the stories and experiences that are important to them, taking the opportunity to build connection and be certain that your children are continuing to thrive during this time of great change and development. Take the time to talk with our Educators about the rich experiences they providing to children during the year, regardless of what may be happening in your calendar.
Building positive connections and celebrating diversity during early childhood helps children to build social-emotional skills and encourages effective communication. It inspires acceptance, respect and promotes discovery, and by integrating this into a child’s development, we help them navigate the world with confidence and agency.
