Respecting each child adapts in their own time

Jul 28, 2020 | Respect

“We do not only respect babies, we demonstrate our respect every time we interact with them. Respecting a child means treating even the youngest infant as a unique human being, not as an object”.

– Magda Gerber

Respect is something we value very highly at Wonderschool. Our approach is strongly influenced by RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers). We feel it’s important to allow our children in the Nursery to form strong relationships with the Educators through trust, respect and positive interactions.

As we have many new children starting with us, we are taking the time to get to know each other and as we do, we are seeing the changes in the children each day. This shows that the children are responding to Educators and are starting to feel safe and secure – making for days that bring many happy memories.

The first day we opened the Nursery we had several children who were upset and didn’t want mummy, daddy or carer to leave (totally understandable). We now have children who happily wave goodbye and who hold their arms out to the Educators. There are going to be days that are easier and some that are harder, but most importantly we are all working together to understand what each child needs.
